The company's Enterprise Environmental Management System (EMS), created in 2003, plays a critical role in Cummins' global environmental footprint reductions and other improvements. The company adopted a model that includes a common framework to ensure a similar look, feel and fundamental approach throughout the organization. The EMS has the flexibility to allow individual sites and businesses to address risks and opportunities most important to them. Cummins has integrated health and safety processes and procedures with the environment since 2007, in accordance with the international standard OHSAS 18001Occupational Health & Safety Management System, to create the company's Enterprise Health, Safety and Management System (HSEMS).
The system has served as the framework for driving continual improvement and efforts beyond compliance at Cummins operations around the world.
